5 Ways to Care for Your Empathic Self

As a highly sensitive individual or empath, you probably suffer from unexplainable fatigue from time to time. If you let it run away with you, you’ll develop the desire to isolate yourself from the world.

For starters, you have to be thankful for your gift. Tuning into others’ needs and the world’s needs is a huge service that we need right now. If you’re feeling this way on a regular basis, you just need to add some tools to your spiritual toolbox that will help you stay guarded and protected when necessary.

Here are some ways you can take care of yourself so you can live the life you want and develop your gifts.

1. Maintain a Distance

Tapping into drama is one of the easiest ways to zap your energy. Everyone is waking at different times and we can’t expect things to shift overnight. To protect yourself, avoid energy vampires and those who sit at a lower vibration. If you find yourself around people who play mind games, manipulate, or say harsh things, start cutting them out of your social circle (it’s not always easy but it’s necessary). If you are meant to reconnect with them in the future, trust that it will happen when and how it’s supposed to.

2. Breathe Deeply

Studies have shown that when we take time to breathe deep cleansing breaths, we automatically feel more relaxed and hopeful. Schedule a time each day for conscious breathwork as it will help you clear out any energies stuck in your auric field that don’t belong to you. You can also do this in the moment if you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation or surrounded by something that feels off.

3. Stay Hydrated

Drinking lots of water is important for so many reasons. Not only is it necessary to our survival, but it will help you stay energized, focused, and able to ward off any sort of energetic gunk you come across. Don’t forget that water is a powerful element that can help flush out energetic toxins!

4. Mind What You Eat

Maintaining a healthy diet is critical for excellent overall health, but it’s especially important for empaths and sensitives. In order to heal ourselves, we need to get plenty of nutrients. If you’re feeling sluggish or unable to connect, it could be due to lower-vibrational foods such as fast food, soda, candy, etc. Try cutting out as much sugar and carbohydrates as you can. If you’re so inclined, you can opt to go vegetarian or vegan. Making any of these changes will open up your intuitive abilities that much more.

5. Get Your Meditation On

Just as it is important to cleanse the body every day, it’s important to clear the mind. Daily meditation is an effective way of letting go of what happened throughout the day as well as energies that no longer serve you. If you can manage, try to meditate in the morning when you wake up or in the evening before you go to bed. When we meditate, our brains enter the Beta, Alpha, or Theta brainwave states and that’s where the good stuff occurs. When we tune into those brainwaves, we are truly healing ourselves.

6. Follow Your Heart

If you’ve been on a spiritual journey for some time, you’re probably focused on opening your third eye chakra. While this is highly beneficial (only if you’re ready), the truth is that the heart chakra is where our gifts lie. When we become heart-centered, we connect with each other, our Higher Selves, and the Universe on a deeper level. As this happens, you may feel nudged in a certain direction. If your heart is telling you to move, take a class, start a business, or learn new modalities, then do it! You’ll be miserable if you don’t.

I have felt this way for years, decades. I closed much off for a very long time. I know my hifts but am unable to use them. It is again coming back and pressuring me to move forward. I know everything in my life will change, relationship, housing and even daily living. I work to be able to handle it all, even through the emotional stress. Thank you for the help. It is coming to me more often and I am learning to follow it more.
